MAJOR SPONSOR SHOWCASE AT RAT PARK
Warringah Rugby Club and Manly Rugby Club will battle for the highly prized “Bayfield Cup” on Saturday 20 July 2019 at Rat Park. The Bayfield Group is the official major sponsor of the Warringah Rugby Club contributing $2.3million over the past 32-years.
The Bayfield Group is a local Northern Beaches independent, family-run business with an impressive hotel portfolio that includes Dee Why Hotel, The LightBrigade, and The Belrose Hotel. Long standing local publicans Neville (deceased), Wayne, Mark, along with grand-child Kaine Bayfield, continue to uphold the family-run tradition of offering first-class hospitality in their prestigious venues. Adding to their hotel portfolio is Bayfield’s Liquor Superstores at Dee Why and Belrose, as well as its Online channel BAYFIELDS.COM.AU. Proudly local-minded, the Bayfield family have been bringing you the best brands at the best prices for over 40-years!
This massive local derby is expecting huge crowds with an anticipated 10,000+ Warringah and Manly supporters. The WRC operational team headed up by General Manager, Guy Fraser-Hills has planned for this home game day with the objective to host a great afternoon of grassroots rugby for everyone.
Guy Fraser-Hill says “It’s a Super Saturday for us at Rat Park with all 4 Grade sides, all three Colts sides and our Ratettes all playing on the day. There will be up to 6-operational bars at strategic locations around the ground with the first opening at 11am. We have approached some of the highly popular food stalls from the Friday Markets to supplement our normal food operations to be located next to the temporary Beer and Bundy Bar on the Southern Hill where you can buy anything from Pad Thai to Gourmet Salads. Of course Bayfield’s owned Dee Why Hotel will also be there to offer their penisular-famous cheeseburgers and pulled pork burgers as you enter the ground. There will be live entertainment from the rooftop of the new Can Bar for an hour immediately after the match to entertain the big crowd and our marvellous Hillbillies in that area. This is designed to spread the load for the hour immediately after the game prior to speeches from about 5.30pm in the Main Bar. There is also live entertainment in the courtyard of the Main Bar immediately following the match. During the day there will also be the children’s favourite, Bubble Girl, a jumping castle, face painting and Juniors/Minis from both Warringah and Manly have been invited to run ot with both teams prior to the 1st Grade kick-off. We anticipate selling close to 1,000+ buckets of hot chips which will keep our staff extremely busy in the Canteen!”
As part of the Bayfield Cup; WRC have worked with their major sponsor for their home game activation in showcasing their brands:

Warringah Rugby Club has partnered with new sports education offering ISCA (International Sport College Australia) for the 2019 season and enrolments are now open for the program’s May intake, commencing Monday 3rd June.
ISCA offers aspiring young athletes the opportunity to complete a Higher Education Diploma of Sport Management (High Performance). The qualification allows for students to study business units, sport management, high performance & a structured internship within the sports industry.
Dr Stephen Burke heads up the ISCA Academic Program and says the ability for student-athletes to study and also undertake practical sessions concurrently is the big advantage for the new innovative program.
“Students not only learn in the class-room but undertake strength and conditioning sessions in the gym, coaching sessions on the field, and recovery sessions in the pool,” Dr Burke says.
“This helps the students develop on and off the field, and all practical sessions are linked back to the High Performance subjects.”
“We have been very fortunate to have some great coaches run the field sessions including current Warringah Head Coach Mark Gerrard, former Aussie 7s captain Ed Jenkins and Head of High Performance for Manly Sea Eagles Don Singe.
“This allows us to present students with a wide range of coaching perspectives and improve their technique, as well as increasing their overall strength, fitness, injury prevention & management knowledge, and understanding of nutrition, physiotherapy & sport psychology.”
The three-day per week program caters for all skill levels, with the business and sport management subjects designed to assist students prepare for a career in sport post playing career.
Enrolments are now open for the next ISCA intake – go to https://www.iscaustralia.edu.au/application-form/
Warringah Rugby Club General Manager Guy Fraser-Hills says “We are expecting a big crowd to watch the Rats take on the Highlanders. Not only are the two Clubs long term “northern” rivals, but this match will see former WRC coach Darren Coleman returning to Rat Park for the first time. Let’s make him feel the heat!! No love here anymore. DC knows it’s coming!!”.
Given the tough day on Good Friday at the hands of Uni, the Rats are already getting fired up, and they are determined to make Gordon the subject of their wrath. If the form shown against Easts is indicative of how quickly this great group of players turn things around, you don’t want to miss being there. It will be an outstanding day of Club Rugby, as 5th Grade kick off the day at 9.30am. You won’t believe the quality of rugby being played by every grade. The skills across the board are incredible. Club rugby in NSW continues to lead the way in showcasing exciting yet uncompromising rugby.
