We hope you are well and safe during these times.

By way of update, the Sydney Rugby Union are working closely with the authorities and working through various scenarios for return to play dates. There is a plan to recommence the competition at Round 11 (v Two Blues) and extend the competition season. There are many moving parts, once we have some clarity we will update you immediately, but it is unlikely we will play on the 10th and 17th July.

In the meantime we are continuing to plan Ladies Day, Pasifika Round and Wellbeing Round for future dates.

A message from the Coach, Mike Ruthven;

G’day Rats Faithful.

Firstly a huge thank you to everyone for your support so far in 2021. Our sponsors, members and loyal supporters play such a significant role in our club and we are extremely grateful for the positive impact you have on us as a football team.

2021 has been an extremely positive season to date. Across the board, we have seen strong, consistent results, and this is reflected in the competition tables for each grade. Chuggers and Guy have 4th Grade sitting at the top of the table, Reidy and Scotty have 3rd Grade sitting 4th, Marsy, Mick and Doug have 2’s sitting 4th and 1st Grade are currently sitting 5th in a very congested table. Credit to all our coaches who have done an outstanding job with their respective teams. From a 1st grade perspective I would like to credit the hard work of Cam Treloar, Nick Piva-Giblett and Geoff Toovey. Each of these men have had a significant impact on the team this year and they continue to challenge the group to become better footy players. Our S&C of Dan Tilley and Benny Bidencope have taken a further step up in the quality of the program they provide our players and this is evident in our ability to play an up tempo brand of footy. Lastly, Dickie and Lozza, 2 best managers floating about in the Shute Shield!

We have seen some outstanding performers through the first 10 rounds of footy. Tyson Davis has been enormous this year and really matured into a strong voice for our team. His performances are reflected by the personal investment he puts into his rugby. Esera Chee-Kam is having his best season since coming into Grade. Ez is a highly talented athlete who has had a disrupted 2 seasons with shoulder injuries but is playing with a new level of confidence and has been a real threat on our edges. Hugh Margin has been a great addition to our club and team this year. Gifted athlete with a great skill set and hunger to get his hands dirty. Will be really important for us as we go deep into the competition. Rory O’Connor has provided us with exactly what you would expect from a guy of his ability and with his experience. Without doubt the best front rower in the Shute Shield and has been over a consistent number of years.

We are managing this latest little Covid hurdle and ensuring we keep the players ticking over whilst adhering to all the Government restrictions. We envisage we will pop out this period hungry for more success and ready to rip into the remainder of the season.

Thanks once again and Up The Rats!

Mike Ruthven
