It is with great sadness that Warringah Rugby Club announces the passing of Ray Watson on Wednesday after a long illness.

Ray was the first player in WRC history to play 100 first grade games with the club, playing a total of 141 first grade games and a total of 155 grade games. Ray was also the Captain of the First Grade team when they won the Second Division Grand Final to enter 1st Division. Ray’s sons, Peter (who’s Godfather is Elley Bennett) and Gary played their junior rugby for Warringah and their senior rugby at Terry Hills Rugby Club, a club where Ray coached from 1982 to 2004. Ray was made a Life Member of Terry Hills Rugby Club in 1991.

In the attached photo, Ray is second from the right, and standing beside him on his right is a young Rod MacQueen and below Rod is Elley Bennett.

Ray was essentially a quiet man but always one you would have wanted in the trenches with you. Terry Hills Rugby Club, the Warringah Rats, and rugby generally, were fortunate to have Ray associated with them for so many years.

His funeral will be held at:
